E29: Light Skate
E29 capstone: a 3D printed, vibration-tolerant flashlight mount for boards, scooters, and bikes, modeled in SolidWorks with full tolerance analysis.
Background
For the E29 final, I helped design the Light Skate, a modular flashlight mount aimed at skateboards, scooters, and bicycles. Parts were modeled in SolidWorks for FDM printing in PLA: the goal was a stiff, universal interface that actually illuminates the path without shaking loose on rough pavement.
Technical architecture
Prototypes iterated through FDM builds to hold tight geometric tolerances while adding compliant features for vibration damping. I owned fit studies using ANSI inch fits, true position, parallelism, and concentricity callouts so the stack assembled smoothly under load. The team ran concept generation, rapid prototyping, and troubleshooting before presenting at the Jacobs showcase.
